Aural Pleasures: “Why Are You Listening to THAT?” by Lisa Wells

Today I’m dishing about the songs that inspired key scenes in my romantic comedy – The Seduction of Kinley Foster.

If you have teenagers in your life, at one time or another, they have probably demanded to know, ‘Why are you listening to that?’, in a tone that clearly states their opinion of whatever that is.  If you haven’t heard this statement, you must be one really cool dude or dudette.

My daughter knows I’m a 70’s music fanatic.  When we go on long runs together, it’s what I listen to for ten plus miles on my playlist.  It’s what I listen to in the car whenever we’re going someplace: be it to the grocery store, to a shopping mall or on a cross country road trip. You see, I have a simple rule: my car – my station.  🙂

So when she comes home from school and hears George Strait singing the blues, she immediately places the back of one hand to my forehead checking for a fever, and grabs the other hand and checks for a pulse in my wrist, and proceeds to ask with a furrowed brow, “Why are you listening to that?”

“I’m an author. It’s what we do,” is my reply.

Now, I will admit, I don’t always listen to music when I’m writing. BUT – I always listen to music when I’m getting ready to write a big emotional scene.  The right music puts me in the right mood.

If you’re interested in knowing more about The Seduction of Kinley Foster, below is short blurb:

She needs an erotic education. And he’s just the one to teach her…

Librarian Kinley Foster wants to write erotic romance—the steamy, sexy, curl-your-toes kind of stuff. The problem? She desperately needs a little erotic inspiration. And at a romance convention in Vegas, she finds it…or rather him. Ian Thompson, the sizzlingly sexy guy who refused Kinley (and her virginity) when she was sixteen. Now it’s time for a little payback. She’ll make Ian a wager that will tempt him to cross every professional—and every sensual—boundary in the book…

Lisa Wells always knew there would come a time in her life when she’d pursue her dream career as a romance author. This is that time.

Before this moment, she’s enjoyed a rollercoaster journey called – The Middle School Counselor – Dramas, Dreams, and Destinies. After many years of working with teenage girls, she knows when one comes in baffled because another girl hates her, the first question to ask is – “Did you steal her boyfriend?” Nine times out of ten the answer is some form of yes but….

While Lisa enjoys working with adolescents, she writes for adults. Her books contain: Sex, Scowls & Sass.
