Just what we needed: A list of really tempting things to distract us all weekend from a Romance author we love.
We’re sharing the wealth with these obsessions from Heather Van Fleet.
5. Pretty Little Liars
I was late to the game when it came to this show. My oldest daughter, who loves it to pieces, kept pushing it on me, wanting to talk end games and ships and what not. So, toward the beginning of last year, I believe it was during spring break, I sat down and watched every single season and episode of this series just to make her happy. In the end, my eyes were bleeding from all the twists and coupling off, but…color me addicted. I’ve not read any of the books in the series (shame on me, I know) but I’d say this is good enough for a middle-aged Mama like myself.
4. Outlander
Not sure if I’m more obsessed with the show, or with Jamie, but hey…I’m on this bandwagon for life. These books and the TV show have turned into a pop culture phenomenon and I, personally, can’t get enough of it. Every Saturday night, I sneak out of my house and drive the ten minutes to get to my parents’ house just so I can watch the show with my equally as obsessed Mom. We curl up, eat some popcorn, and turn off all the lights just to get the theatre ambiance whenever we’re watching. Every week is a surreal experience that I keeps me coming back for more, though I know what’s about to happen. Most of all, it gives my mom and me time to just hang.
3. Fifty Shades of Grey series/movies
So, here’s the thing. I read this book series before it was a huge thing. (I believe it was published by The Writer’s Coffee Shop when I discovered it.) I have no shame admitting the fact that I adored this series at the time, probably because it was my first “erotic novel” read. (I was a YA addict for at least five years prior to adult romance.) Lots of people dislike the series for various reasons, and people seem to be ashamed to admit that they DO like it. (Which, to me, reading is reading. Don’t ever be ashamed of what you love.) I’ll admit though, that I did try to re-read book one before the first movie came out, and couldn’t get into it. Maybe because my tastes in writing had changed since. But I will say, I am dang excited for Fifty Shades Darker to get into theatres. I’m hoping the acting is a bit better than the first movie, but I’m still ready to see how it all plays out on the big screen.
2. Fuller House
The thing I love about this show, is that I can share it with my family and not feel guilty about what they’re watching. (Unlike my #1 pick below, lol) It’s funny with adult humor for me, and sweet with just the right amount of humor for my 6-year-old. Add in the fact that my 10 and 12-year-olds love it too, and it’s the perfect binge-worthy show out there. I used to be a huge Full House fan growing up, (even met the actress that played Stephanie when I was a little kid) and to know that me and my girls can share the love for this series, while I get to relive bits of my own childhood, pretty much seals this in as my solid, number two spot.
1. The Walking Dead
This show takes the cake by a long shot when it comes to my top spot. It’s one of the most popular shows out there and I am completely in love with everything about it. The characters, the zombies, and I’m even starting to love on the villain a little bit. (Though he did kill my most favorite character ever…. RIP Abraham. sniff) Still, this show has become everything to my family. We gather round on Sunday nights, popcorn out, tissues ready just in case someone bites it, and watch it like we’re living through it. My oldest daughter cries (and so do I) because we’re terrified of who (if anyone) is going to die, my middle daughter giggles feverishly over the fact that Negan is so stinking hot and funny, while my husband usually winds up having to remind us all that the show is fictional. My youngest, on the other hand, usually curls away in her room because she’s not quiet there with us yet. (though she knows all the characters’ names.)
Coming March 25th and 26th, I’m taking my older two daughters to Walker Stalker Con in Chicago for the second year and we couldn’t be more pumped. We were newbies last year, but had an amazing time anyway, now this year we’re pros, ready to meet every actor we can. Have a look at some of our pictures from last year below!
