TV Recap: Scream Queens 1×09 “Ghost Stories”

We’re coming down to the final few episodes of Scream Queens, and things are definitely picking up! Lots happened this week, so let’s just get into it.

Spoilers ahead!

Okay, so there was drama on multiple levels. The first was Boone showing back up. We got him a little at the end of the last episode, but this one he was in rare form. I’m a little confused on why he decided it’d be a good idea to try to persuade is sister (?) to kill Gigi, but… Also, why he faked being gay faking being straight? What was that about? He could have flown equally under the radar without all the hullaballoo. Though I can’t blame him for getting all turned on with Chad in his bed. He’s only human, yo.

Boone is waltzing around saying he’s a ghost so he can seduce Zayday, which is a pretty stupid idea and goes about how you would imagine—she’s like “Uh, no, you’re not a ghost.” He kills her boyfriend, Earl Grey, in a misguided attempt to seduce her, cause that should totally work. And maybe he’s the one terrorizing Chanel #5 in the back of her car? That one’s a little tricky, because the timeline is compressed and there’s a lot going on, so it’s hard to know who could have been wearing the Red Devil costume at any given time. But all signs point to one of the Chanels being the other Red Devil since two of the scary stories told with Denise were reenacted by the Red Devil, and the only way he/she could know that was if they actually sat in on them.

So…complicated.

But the Boone stuff all cumulates into him and his sister (I’m assuming) sitting there, waiting to kill Gigi. Except the Red Devil kills Boone (for real this time) and not Gigi. Which is some cold hearted insanity right there. From all accounts, they’re twins and she just straight stabbed him.

On the other side of things, there was high drama in the Chanel department. She’s accepted an offer by Chad to go to his family’s compound for Thanksgiving (which, historically, means he’s going to propose so they can be super hot and super rich together…Priorities). She’s all riding high until Hester flips out, tells Chanel that she’s pregnant, which creates a death spiral where he decides he’s got to marry her despite her cheeseburger breath and the fact she farted in front of him once. Because, again, priorities.

Which causes Chanel to lose her ever-loving mind. She stages this whole thing to get Hester to admit she lied about being pregnant and then, in a fit of rage, pushes her down the stairs, resulting in Hester breaking her neck. Chanel is, naturally, not broken up about this in the least. But, as #3 points out—that just means she’s A killer, not THE killer.

So we have two known killers running around—Chanel and the Dean—as well as Gigi, who hasn’t killed anyone that I can tell conclusively, and Boone, who DID, but is now dead. And…our mystery lady Red Devil. As this point, I’m leaning toward either Chanel or Chanel #5 being the girl Bath Tub baby, but it’s anyone’s game still.

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back. Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published. Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people? She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Visit her on her website, Facebook, or Twitter!
