Q&A: Victoria Roberts of KILL OR BE KILT

Okay, as huge pun fans, all it took was the title of Kill or Be Kilt to for us to get ridiculously excited for this Q&A with the amazing Victoria Roberts! But Victoria’s answers make us nerd out in the best way possible. Love a good Scottish Romance? Kill or Be Kilt is out now!

What are your five favorite movies with romance or romantic elements?

There are a lot of movies that I favor, but here’s a few that come to mind in no particular order:

  1. Romancing the Stone. I love the fact that Joan Wilder is a Romance novelist. This movie always makes me smile.
  2. Titanic. This movie was epic. After Jack died (he could’ve fit on those boards with Rose), I loved that she did all those things he wanted to do with her. *sniffle*
  3. Love Story. I adored Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw in this film. This one tears at the heartstrings.
  4. Pride and Prejudice. I’m rather fond of the 2005 version with Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightly.
  5. The Holiday. Every aspect of this movie was great. Who wouldn’t want to escape to a cottage for the holidays and fall in love?

Everyone has a favorite couple in romance, whether in a romance book, movie, or television series. Who is your favorite couple, and why?

I am totally addicted to the new TV series Lucifer. My “ship” couple is definitely Lucifer and Chloe. Even the devil can be vulnerable, and I love that a woman makes him that way. I’m praying (no pun intended) for a hook up between those two and that love conquers all.

What was the first Romance novel you read? What do you remember about it?

I read my first romance novel in my thirties. The first one was a Hannah Howell tale about one of the Murray brothers. Not only had I never read a Romance, but I never read anything about historical Highlanders. I was hooked the first chapter and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. With the vivid descriptions of Scotland and the alpha-Highland warriors who took no crap from anyone, Hannah made me fall in love with romance and Scotland. And the rest is history.

Have you ever reread it?

No. Before I started writing, I read a lot of Hannah Howell, Karen Marie Moning and Lynn Kurland. I currently try not to read anything about Highlanders because I don’t want another author’s ideas to impact my writing. I try to keep my plots original, but I can’t say those women didn’t inspire me.

Prior to ever picking up a single romance novel, she penned her first young adult novella at 16 years old.
