Guest Post: “Writing a Series With a Large Cast” by Lisa Kessler

Blue Moon Lisa Kessler

Thanks for having me visit again! Blue Moon is the 6th book in my Moon Series which centers on a werewolf pack in Reno, Nevada. I do my best to make each novel stand alone, but they all feature recurring characters from the Pack as well.

The challenge is of course is to be sure each of the members of the Pack are unique, different, and memorable. As the series expands, I also have the new mates joining the Pack, plus children.

Yikes right?

But I’ve grown to love the Pack community that has expanded with each book, and, at least for me, each werewolf is completely his own man.

In Blue Moon, we finally get to know Logan Reynolds. He’s the lead singer of Logan and the Howlers, an alt rock band. And he’s also my only werewolf who found his mate as a teen.

This was a huge turning point in his life and his mate, Anna’s because at seventeen, he had no idea how he could protect her, and he was afraid to confide his secret to her, so instead, he walked away.

That one simple act turned him into a loner, pouring his pain into his music. It also separated him from the other Pack men because from the start of the series, none of them believed in the old Pack myth of one mate for life, but Logan knew it was true, but he never told anyone, not even his twin brother.

These are the family dynamics that are so rich for me to dig into when I write, and I hope it also gives the reader a better view of the werewolf they’d only seen from a distance in earlier books.

So what about you? Why do you enjoy Shifter books? I’d love to hear!
