Fitness Fridays: “Simple Things & Unexpected Success” by Sally Kilpatrick
Well, I managed to shave off a pound this week, but I’m not sure you want to know the how of it.
Did you know that you can achieve ten thousand steps in one day if you clean out a garage? You can. At least you can do this if your garage is so horrifically cluttered that little animals burrowed under items and died, leaving behind only a skeleton. Bonus: you’re so grossed out by the discovery that you eat less for lunch.
But I digress.
This week we’re talking about little things because I’ve been cleaning and writing and haven’t had a chance to try any of the big things. This week’s goals have been 2000 words a day, 10000 steps a day, and eat more salad. That’s it. I didn’t count calories. I’ve only managed one run thus far. Still, I did see a little positive action on the scale due to those little changes.
One organization book that I read (because vicariously organizing through reading a book is so much more satisfying than actually getting up and cleaning my house) suggested that I will lose weight if I get rid of clutter. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Another thing I did this week was take the total health assessment on Kaiser.org because I’m planning to see what I can learn from their programs. Stay tuned for that update. Supposedly there are classes. I kinda love classes. One thing the health assessment mentioned is that I’m too stressed, and that stress contributes to weight gain.
No kidding!
As for overall health and keeping it simple, though? My mini-me and I hiked Kennesaw Mountain Sunday before last, and that was one of the best things I could do. I enjoyed the spring air AND got a good workout for my derriere. It was only a little over 2 miles round trip, but it was well worth it to do something with my daughter that didn’t involve the television. Quality mother-daughter time + stress relief + workout = better health.
So here’s to the simple things and the unexpected success that they bring!
You can always send me suggestions on Twitter, Facebook or through my website at SallyKilpatrick.com. Until we meet again, do at least one thing healthy—you deserve it!
