Q&A: Sabrina Sol of DELICIOUS SATISFACTION

Have you ever clicked with someone just based on their OTPs? Well, now you have. Don’t miss this fantastic Q&A with Sabrina Sol, author of Delicious Satisfaction!

FAVORITE MOVIES:

What are your five favorite movies with romance or romantic elements?

When Harry Met Sally

The Proposal

Sense & Sensibility

Sixteen Candles

Clueless

Describe your favorite scene from each one (you can include a Youtube clip if you want as well).

When Harry Met Sally: My favorite scene is at the end when Harry finds Sally at the New Year’s Eve party and lists out every weird reason why he loves her.

The Proposal: Any scene with Ryan Reynolds in it. But if I have to pick just one it’s the one where he tells her to marry him so he can date her. And then they kiss!

Sense & Sensibility: Although I do love the romance between Elinor and Edward, I’m always more invested in the unrequited love that Colonel Brandon has for Marianne. So my favorite scene is when Marianne wakes from her coma and thanks him for bringing her mother. That scene is a glimmer of hope that she will finally give him a chance!

Sixteen Candles: Of course it’s when Samantha comes out of the church and finds Jake waiting for her across the street…with his red Porsche.

Clueless: The original “step-brother” romance. Plus Paul Rudd. Oy. My favorite scene is when Josh and Cher (Alicia Silverstone) are teasing each other at the table while trying to help her dad’s staff with a case. You can see how much they like “like” each other. So cute!

Did you have any of these scenes in mind when writing scenes from your latest release?

I didn’t have any scenes specifically in mind when I wrote Delicious Satisfaction but there are definitely similar themes taken from each of these movies in the book. There is a friends to lovers plot (When Harry Met Sally), teasing banter between two people who are fighting their emotions (The Proposal), unrequited feelings (Sense & Sensibility), unrequited feelings finally returned (Sixteen Candles) and a little bit of forbidden love (Clueless).

FIVE BOOKS

If you could only read five books for the rest of your life, what five books would they be, and why?

This is such a hard question. I’ll pick a wide variety then: Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), Dirty Girls Social Club (Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez), Beautiful Player (Christina Lauren), Dirty (Megan Hart) and Good in Bed (Jennifer Weiner). I picked these books because I can honestly say they evoked significant feelings from me while I read them and I’d want to experience those feelings over and over again. In fact, these are books that I often reread even now.

BOOK BOYFRIENDS

Who are your book boyfriends? (list a maximum of five) What do you like about them? What characteristics do they share with the hero from your latest release?

  • Drew Evans (Tangled by Emma Chase)
  • Will Sumner (Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren)
  • Reid Andrews (Seducing Cinderella by Gina Maxwell)
  • Nick Hammer (Mr. O by Lauren Blakely)

These heroes have a few things in common with Dante from Delicious Satisfaction: They are all DIRTY DIRTY talkers who like to take control in the bedroom, but also aren’t afraid to show their gentle, sweet sides to the women they love.

Everyone has a favorite couple (an “OTP” in ‘shipping terms) in romance, whether in a romance book, movie, or television series. Who is your favorite couple, and why?

It USED to be Mindy and Danny from The Mindy Project. I wanted them together so bad. But then they were and it all went downhill. I’m still kind of bitter about it. So right now it would have to be Olivia Benson and Elliott Stabler, even though the character isn’t on Law & Order: SVU anymore. But I’m hoping that one day, a newly divorced Elliott will return and finally kiss the hell out of Olivia. Cause she (and all of us) have waited long enough already.

FIRST ROMANCE (AKA My First Time):

What was the first romance novel you read?

I don’t remember the name but I’m sure it was a Harlequin –my mom stockpiled Harlequins back in the day.

What do you remember about it?

The love scenes, of course! Although they were very tepid compared to the ones I write now, I remember being scandalized when I read it…and also LOVING it.

What did you like most about it?

It was a marriage of convenience plot and I remember being very affected by the fact that the heroine never believed that the hero could really love her until he did! It was the best payoff in terms of a happily ever after. I was hooked on romance from then on.

What did you like least about it?

In the beginning of the book, the hero was a real jerk. But I grew to love him and eventually believed he deserved to be with the heroine.

Have you ever reread it? If you did, how do you feel about it now?

I haven’t reread that specific book since I can’t remember the name. But I am definitely a sucker nowadays for any type of marriage of convenience stories or fake engagement/date plots. I think I will always love how something pretend can develop into something real.
