What Eras in Historical Romance Would You Most Like to Read?

She’s a twentieth-century fox!

Historical romance readers have long embraced the Regency era (England, technically 1811-1820, but usually encompassing 1800-1830), with its Empire waistlines, Almack’s, and young ladies making their debut at fancy Society balls.

But there are many other eras available, from medieval to American Western to Gilded Age to Victorian and more.

What historical eras in romance would you most like to read?

I’m not huge on historicals typically, but I love a good Highlander story!

I love most historical eras, and I wish there were more medievals out there-a while ago, Madeline Hunter wrote them, and I loved them. Patricia Ryan had a few also, which were really solid. I am intrigued by the start of the twentieth century, right at the tail-end of the Victorian era leading into Edwardian, and here in the US that’d be the Gilded Age, I think. I still mostly read Regencies and Victorians since those are what are most published.

While I always enjoy a good Regency, I also am enjoying the Victorian era-romances, and the increasing trend toward early 20th century romances (e.g., teens and World War I, turn of the century and events like the Titanic, and the Roaring 20’s lend themselves wonderfully to romance with all the events sweeping the US!). Likewise, I think that the eras that seem to have fallen out of favor, like the Revolutionary War and the Civil War in the US are rife with conflict and material for great romances, so when they crop up I’m always interested.
