Swoon-Worthy Hero Highlights: Bellamy Blake by Codi Gary

For me, every good T.V. show gives me a couple to root for in the first episode. Two characters who so clearly connect, their chemistry so undeniable that I am frothing at the mouth every week just to watch them spar or have each other’s back.

Okay, the frothing might have been a bit unsettling, but you get the idea.

However, the problem is, for any great couple to last, the show will keep them apart for as long as possible. There is a delicate balance between too soon to “hurry up before I start taking my frustrations to Twitter.”

But despite all the will they won’t they drama that may be unfolding, you have to continue to love the hero. Even in a teen Dystopian drama set in space and ravaged Earth in the future, no matter that the two characters you’ve shipped for two seasons haven’t even begun to explore feelings for each other, you still have the hope and dream of them.

And you still get to watch Bellamy Blake come through and save the day. In fact, you hardly remember the Bellamy who condoned a “do what you want ” society and caused so much chaos that people died needlessly.

You have no idea who I’m talking about?! Well, sit back and relax and let me tell you why Bellamy is a hero worthy of the name.

Bellamy Blake grew up on the Ark, a space station that survivors from Earth had been living on for the last hundred years. There were many rules on the Ark and if you broke them, you got floated (released into space). Bellamy’s mom was floated just for having another kid, a little sister who Bellamy loved and protected. When his sixteen-year-old sister ends up in jail for just existing and is set to be one of a hundred juvenile offenders being sent back to Earth to see if it’s survivable, Bellamy does everything he can to go with her so he can keep her safe.

Best. Big. Brother. Ever!

Like I said, though, it took a lot to look past his bluster and bad attitude to see the good in him. Past the fear and loneliness that consumed him before he started showing little parts of his true character. It wasn’t until about halfway through season one that the bad boy persona started to crack and you saw the real Bellamy.

The one with the following swoon-worthy qualities.

1. Bellamy is loyal, and will do anything for the people he cares about…even if it means sacrificing himself.

2. Bellamy is brave. Like stand his ground against hardened warriors brave, willing to risk it all to keep them alive.

3. He is smart and charming. A born leader, it is hard not to let your guard down around his aw shucks grin and sparkling eyes.

4. Just watching him protect his little sister Octavia is heart meltingly sweet…even when he becomes a bit overbearing.

5. Bellamy is funny. I know, I said it before, but I love a guy with a sense of humor, and every hero should have one…even a dark one.

6. Beneath all the bravado, Bellamy had a kind heart and gentle soul. He is a good man, filled with honor, and that is one of my favorite things to see in any hero. That flash of honor, that strength that tells me ultimately, he’ll do the right thing.

Which is why I recommend that everyone takes a chance on Bellamy and discover all the complex, and amazing feels he will pull from every nerve ending in your body.

The 100 returns for its 3rd season in 2016 and you can stream the first two on Netflix.
