Swoon-Worthy Hero Highlight: Dylan Kershaw from In Your Eyes

Those of you who know or follow me, y’all understand that I adore all that is Whedon (Joss Whedon, to be exact.)

However, the first time I ever watched In Your Eyes, I had no idea it was a Whedon creation. I fell in love with the movie without that knowledge, but the hero of the movie, Dylan Kershaw, stole my heart. I have watched this movie over and over since discovering it on Netflix, and have to admit, that it’s not just the amazing story telling (and romance) that has me coming back again. It’s also Dylan’s awesome heroness that draws me back.

Before I get to why Dylan makes me sigh like a teenaged girl at a One Direction concert, I’ll tell you a bit about the plot of the movie.

In Your Eyes falls under supernatural romance, and true to Whedon form, has laughs, touching moments, and witty dialogue. It tells the story of Rebecca (Becky) and Dylan, two strangers on opposite ends of the country who have shared a psychic link all their lives. They are able to see, feel, hear, taste, and smell what the other person does and even communicate (by talking out loud unfortunately, but still.) But it isn’t until they are adults that they realize that they aren’t actually crazy and that the other person is real. And once that link is opened, Dylan and Becky begin to change each other’s lives in ways they never imagined.

If you want to watch the trailer, here is the link:

Now, Dylan isn’t the traditional romance hero. He’s a shy ex-con on parole who lives in a trailer in New Mexico, and works at a car wash. A regular Joe, Dylan has never been good at anything except disabling silent alarms (which turns out he’s really not so good at) and getting into trouble. However, once he begins to get to know Rebecca, Dylan develops confidence in himself, and realizes that he wants more than the life he’s created for himself. Eventually he falls for Rebecca and when she is in trouble, risks it all (including his freedom) to rescue her. (Full disclosure; Rebbeca is married).

And so, without further ado, here are just a few reasons why I think Dylan is positively Swoon-Worthy.

1. First off, the actor who plays Dylan, Michael Stahl-David, is freaking adorable and plays the shy, awkward and awfully sweet Dylan so well you find yourself smiling throughout the whole movie.

2. Dylan has a big, kind heart. He’s understanding, caring, and loyal, even to his dirt bag cousin who doesn’t deserve it. And although he has made so many mistakes, he wants to be better. To do better. Before Rebecca, Dylan was merely getting by. And when he tells her, “I mean, the best thing, the only thing that I like about me, is you,” you just want to give him a big old hug.

3. Dylan is funny and charming in an aw shucks good ole boy way. The kind of guy who makes you feel warm, safe, and treasured. “Oh, you hate this shirt! Women everywhere revile this shirt!” LOL!

4. Dylan isn’t afraid to take a chance. Whether it’s dancing in public or hopping on a plane to rescue the woman he loves, Dylan is a brave, smart, fearless hero who deserves the white horse.

Plus, there is this really awesome scene…

Well you will have to watch the movie to find out what happens.

If you love feel good romances with witty dialogue and a lovable hero, you should definitely watch In Your Eyes on Netflix.
