A Love Worth Biting For Roxy Mews

Roxy Mews writes scorching hot paranormal erotic romance. Her series which focuses on the hybrid vampire/werewolf Hart clan, and the sexy shenanigans that happen when pheromones run wild. But most readers don’t know that she based one of the important relationships in A Love Worth Biting For on her own relationship with her husband. We asked her to tell us more about how she uses her real life as inspiration for the series.

One of the first things I get asked when I talk about being an author is, “Where do you get your ideas?”

I have written down things from dreams and I have had brainstorming sessions with other authors over a cocktail or five. For the Hart Clan Hybrids, the story started with the old favorite of “Write what you know.”

No, I don’t have a hidden knowledge of vampires and werewolves. Or maybe I’ve been compelled to keep my mouth shut. Regardless of my paranormal buddies, the Hart Clan Hybrids story began with an emotion I wanted to portray.

I wanted to share with the world the overwhelming love smack to the heart I got when I knew my husband was the man for me. I always try and take bits and pieces from my personal experiences to make often outlandish events have a personal touch. Kisses become bites, intuition becomes a physical reaction to magic, and they are all done deliberately to move the main arc of the story forward. But in the case of, A Love Worth Biting For, I didn’t have the story line planned out ahead of time.

In the opening scene of this book, Amber Paulson nearly gets knocked out by the force of the mating pheromones. She sees her incredibly hot mate pour an ice cold bottle of water over his head and chest at a touch football game on campus. Her body stalls as she realizes she can’t process the enormity of what she’s just experienced.

I really did realize my husband was the man for me while he was playing a football game outside the cafeteria hall during my first week of college. Yes, it was during band camp.

My future husband only drenched himself in ice cold water in my mind. But in my imagination he poured it in slow motion with stars twinkling around him. That’s how everyone meets their significant other, isn’t it?

In capturing the emotional response, the breathless wonder I felt became the mating pheromones Amber experienced. Initially I didn’t intend for the story to be a paranormal romance, but trying to explain the sensation in a contemporary setting wasn’t working for me. Once my husband became a vampire and I became a werewolf, the story took off on its own. My characters became their own people, and like all the rest of my books, they began to scream their stories at me.

Amber Paulson has a few characteristics of mine, but she gets to do a lot of things I can’t or won’t do in reality. I like to say she’s who I would be if I had the balls to say exactly what I thought and do exactly what I wanted without the benefit of a societal filter or the threat of jail time.

The Hart Clan Hybrids series formed because Amber found her mate on those first few pages of A Love Worth Biting For. And just like it happens in real life, her heart took her where she needed to be. I might have dragged her kicking and screaming, but in the end she claimed her mate.

I met my husband over fifteen years ago, and following my own “mating pheromones” was the best thing I ever did. I am tickled that my writing career began by capturing that moment in my first book.

Lucky for Roxy’s fans, Book 3 in the Hart Clan Hybrids series, Three’s a Clan, releases today! Here’s a little more about the book:

Sometimes the only way to hold on is to let it all go.

Finding out she’s a byproduct of her maker’s plan for world domination is a letdown for Shelly Meyers. Now she must figure out where to pin her loyalties. Tradition tells her to follow her leader, but something tells her tradition is overrated. Is it her conscience? Nah. Not that. Not anymore. Richard Paulson never planned on turning furry, yet here he is, an Alpha in charge of a pack. Even with Doc, his beta, at his back, he seems to keep winding up in another frying pan.

Long ago, Trevor “Doc” Paulson gave the woman he loved to someone who could give her the life she deserved. Now, as he and Richard fight to prevent history repeating, he’s struggling not to act on pure attraction—again. He knows he should be Rick’s voice of reason, but what happens when the three of them get close makes no sense at all. Together they must decide to let go of the past to forge a new future—and fast. Before a power-hungry vampire takes it all away.

Note that she met her husband at BAND CAMP. Come on, people! Best story ever!

It’s obviously my favorite love story ever. 😉 Hubby even had it arranged so we were next to each other in the drill. LOL. Love in the sax section.

I love this story! And yeah, band camp is icing on the cake, lol. But it explains the real emotion underlying a great book, and for me, makes A Love Worth Bitting For richer. Thanks!

The story was much better after a certain friend helped me get some edits going on it. 😉 I am so happy it was my first book. Made it even more special. Thanks for stopping by!!
