Guest Post: 5 Favorite Romantic Suspense Reads from Lea Griffith

Flash of Fury Lea Griffith

Thank you, EverAfter Romance, for letting me chat about my 5 Favorite Romantic Suspense Novels. I cut my teeth on romantic suspense. My mom was a voracious reader and I used to sneak into her closet and read her romances. From her historical to her suspense, my love of romance developed in a walk-in closet when I was probably too young to be reading them, lol! But read them I did and of course I have favorites. Let me share, yeah?

5. All the Queen’s Men, Linda Howard

Linda Howard is one of my all-time favorite authors. She gives epic emotion, action and suspense and wraps it all up in a neat, tidy bow by the end. Her reads are fast-moving and HOT. John Medina, the hero of AtQM, more than meets the HOT criteria, and his heroine, is more than a match for him. It’s got all the things I love in a rom suspense and her writing is beautiful.
4. Naked in Death, J D Robb

Oh, the things I could say about this book. JD Robb outdid herself when she penned this futuristic romantic suspense that revolves around a tough-as-nails cop and the man who takes her heart. This makes my list at #4 because Roarke is my all-time favorite hero. He’s got it all and I loved reading about him as much as I loved reading about Eve Dallas. Robb keeps you hanging on while weaving a believable, and accurately depicted, tale of murder, police procedure, and a romance that blooms in the middle of bloodshed.

3. Wildcard, Lora Leigh

Ahhh, Nathan Malone. Sexy, sexy, Nathan Malone. With a storyline that keeps the reader and the heroine guessing through most of the book, Wildcard tics all my boxes when it comes to a fabulously hot hero and story that damn near breaks my heart. Leigh winds together a man so ingrained in his beliefs and military training with a woman who has given up any hope of a future because she’s lost him. Emotional, poignant, hot smexxy scenes, and enough suspense and action to keep me on the edge of my seat, this book moves me every time I pick it up. It makes lightning zing through my blood and tears prick my eyes. I love this story hard.
2. Into the Crossfire, Lisa Marie Rice

Sometimes you read a book and it just hits you in the gut. You never forget it. Into the Crossfire is one of those books for me. Rice’s writing is eloquent and so hot it’ll scorch your fingers on the page! You’ve got a Navy SEAL and a terrorists; action and romance—I’m not sure what else you’d need to bring hours of enjoyment. Rice had me from the first page and this series isn’t one to be missed.
1. Ugly Duckling, Iris Johansen

Here it is—my absolute go-to romantic suspense. This book, for me, was probably the first romantic suspense I read that brought me to tears. The pain that the heroine, Nell Calder, goes through, the magnitude of her loss, is out-shadowed only by her extreme metamorphosis. She becomes retribution, changing her appearance while learning the skills she needs to take down the people responsible for her daughter’s death. The hero is equally as strong and they play off each other so perfectly that the romance is all the more beautiful for it. Their relationship is tangible and fraught with a past they are trying to let go. This book was my introduction to strong heroines. It is proof positive that heroes aren’t the only bad mama-jammas. I read this a couple of times a year to get myself hyped for a new story. This is my favorite, no doubt.

So there you have it, my 5 Favorite Rom Suspense reads. If you haven’t read any on my list, grab them up! You won’t be disappointed. While you’re at it, grab a copy of my brand new release, Flash of Fury. I’m taking you on a while ride filled with black ops, CIA, intrigue, suspense and some of the sexiest characters you’ll ever meet. And I can’t forget my heroine—#KickAssFTW.

And please, share with me your favorite reads. I’m always looking for new reading material!

Go read all the words!
