Q&A: James Lear of THE SUN GOES DOWN

The Sun Goes Down James Lear

Today we take a small peek into the mind of James Lear, the brilliant author behind The Sun Goes Down, out today! Get a glimpse at what influences and inspires one of our favorite erotica writers.

FAVORITE MOVIES

What are your five favorite movies with romance or romantic elements?

Now, Voyager with Bette Davis, which is the ultimate romantic wish-fulfilment/self-denial movie.

Showgirls, which is an anti-romantic movie with a lot of romantic elements in it.

Brokeback Mountain, which is incredibly depressing but does feature a very persuasive love story.

Cabaret, which I found intensely romantic as a young man

If…, the Lindsay Anderson movie about a revolution in a boys’ boarding school, which includes a great love theme between two boys.

Describe your favorite scene from each one!

Now, Voyager: the scene when Charlotte descends the stairs on the boat for the first time, we see her fantastic shoes first then pan up to take in the whole transformation. It’s probably my favourite scene in any film, ever.

Showgirls: the scene in which Nomi has sex in a swimming pool. It’s berserk.

Brokeback Mountain: the scene in which the two men are reunited for the first time after their initial affair, and they can’t keep their hands off each other. They have a passionate kiss just outside the house, as I recall.

Cabaret: the dialogue goes something like ‘Fuck Max!’ ‘I do!’ ‘So do I.’ I thought that was really exciting and daring at the time.

If….: There’s a scene in which the pretty younger boy watches the older boy (played by Richard Warwick, one of the most beautiful men ever in a film) in the gymnasium. It’s really intense.

Guest Post: Binge Reads from Jennifer Bonds, Megan Erickson, and Sara Jane Stone

Have you finished binging on your favorite TV shows? Looking for something new to fall in love with? Brazen authors, Jennifer Bonds, Megan Erickson and Sara Jane Stone, are here to share why now is the perfect time to binge read these sizzling series.

Jennifer Bonds, author of the Risky Business series

All good things must come to an end and while it’s bittersweet for me to say goodbye to the guys of the Risky Business series, it’s the perfect opportunity to curl up with these sexy heroes for a weekend binge! These guys like to mix business and pleasure, so whether you’re in the mood for a dirty-talking Madison Avenue bad boy, a hunky hockey player who’s good with his hands, or a fireman with a sizable apparatus, you can’t go wrong!

About Seducing the Fireman by Jennifer Bonds

Firefighter Jackson Hart is back in Brooklyn and on the hunt for the girl who’s kept him burning for ten long years. The girl he left, in a total prick move, without saying goodbye. Now he’s determined to make it right, to hell with her three-date rule.

But Becca’s not ready to forgive and forget. In fact, she seems determined to stoke his fire every chance she gets. She wants to avoid sexy distractions like him? Fine. Because what she doesn’t know—yet—is that Jax isn’t the kind of man to give up when he wants something. And he always gets what he wants.

Guest Post: Tara Sue Me on Erotica’s Reputation

The Master Tara Sue Me

I think sometimes erotica gets a bad rap. It’s often seen as nothing more than porn without pictures  or it’s something those people read. And you’re not too sure who those people are,  but it’s not you. Other times, I’ve heard it said you don’t have to write good to write erotica. As long as the sex is there, that’s all anybody cares about.

But erotica is so much more.  At its heart, like all romances, erotica is a love story. It’s the coming together of a couple (or more if you’re talking menage, but let’s keep it simple)  as they explore  their feelings, desires, and wants.

Like other romances, there are forces that try to keep them apart  and obstacles to overcome before they find their happily ever after.  Unlike other romances, in erotica,  sex plays a big part of the story.

However,  this doesn’t necessarily mean wild and crazy, swinging from the chandeliers,  sex. Nor does it mean it has to involve whips and chains, floggers and nipple clamps.  Though erotica can have some or all of those.

Guest Post: “Leading a Double Life” by Cecilia Tan

Taking The Lead Cecilia Tan

Many things can cause a woman to need to lead a double life, I suppose, like being a deep cover agent for the CIA. But more often it’s our sex lives that drive us to hide a crucial part of ourselves from the world. Society judges women by a brutal double standard: we’re expected to be sexy at all times but heaven forbid your co-workers or students or boss finds out that you might like to get freaky in bed.

This is a problem. This is a big problem. Fear of being judged not only pushes women to hide their sexuality, it may prevent them from exploring it in the first place. Put simply: THAT SUCKS. Some women fear being judged so much that they will even hide their romance novels! No one should have to live in fear because of their choices for grown-up consensual pleasure. Why do we call them “guilty pleasures” anyway? There’s no reason to feel guilty whether it’s because you like leather or love stories.

Guest Post: “Researching Beer Commercials” by Kelly Jamieson

No Obligation Required Kelly Jamieson

When I was a kid, I always had a book in front of me when I was watching TV (okay, I still do that!). My mom noticed that I would look up from the book during commercials. I will admit that I often found a good commercial more entertaining than the TV show.

One of the most fun parts of researching for my Brew Crew series was watching beer commercials. In my series, Huxworth Packard Advertising has a big, important client, Verhoeven Breweries. This is the account that everyone wants to work on and it attracts the brightest stars in advertising, who want to be part of the “Brew Crew”.

Now I’m no creative advertising genius and I had no idea what these guys on the “Brew Crew” were going to come up with, so I had to do some research. This was no hardship, as some of the best advertising in recent years has arguably come from beer companies.

We’ve seen those ads for Dos Equis and “The Most Interesting Man in the World.”

Guest Post: Meghan March on Billionaire Playboys

Dirty Together Meghan March

How do you turn a billionaire playboy into the boy next door? To be blunt, you can’t. At least not unless he decides to buy the whole neighborhood on a whim.

The billionaire playboy is a singular breed, and the only changes you’ll see in him are ones that he wants to make. Why? Because the defining trait of the billionaire playboy is the streak of unapologetic alpha male running through him. It’s not an affectation, it’s a lifestyle.

In the Dirty Billionaire Trilogy, Creighton Karas knows what he wants and will never apologize for going after it. So what does that mean for a heroine like Holly Wix who has never encountered this kind of man before? It’s time to hold on tight to your self-respect and convictions because that alpha will not hesitate to roll right over you. Learning to stand your ground, even in the face of a man who is used to having everyone bow to his wishes, is a must.

Dirty Billionaire Trilogy Meghan March
So, is going toe-to-toe with an alpha worth it? Absolutely. When he realizes that woman who he’s drawn to is also strong enough to stand at his side and take on the world, he’s hooked. Alpha down. This is when things get interesting. The rare sweet side starts to make an appearance, and it goes beyond simple acts like opening doors and flowers. Next, the billionaire playboy pulls out all the stops when it comes to being protective. Anything that threatens his woman is dealt with before she has a chance to worry about it. And when she’s scraping the bottom of the barrel on self-confidence? His every word and action builds her up and helps her to see what he sees: That she’s the amazing woman who brought the alpha to his knees, and he’s the luckiest guy in the world to have her in his life.

Living with this kind of man may not be an easy road, but it’s sure to be worth every bit of the wild ride.

Meghan MarchMeghan March is the author of contemporary and erotic romance novels.

Meghan March has been known to wear camo face paint and tromp around in woods wearing mud-covered boots, all while sporting a perfect manicure. She’s also impulsive, easily entertained, and absolutely unapologetic about the fact that she loves to read and write smut. Her past lives include slinging auto parts, selling lingerie, making custom jewelry, and practicing corporate law. Writing books about dirty talking alpha males and the strong, sassy women who bring them to their knees is by far the most fabulous job she’s ever had. She loves hearing from her readers, so feel free to send an e-mail.

She can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, and MeghanMarch.com.

Guest Post: “The Serial Evolution: To Binge or Not To Binge” by Beth Kery

Glow Beth Kery

If I’d written this article in 2012, I would have called it The Serial Revolution. In 2012, when Because You Are Mine first hit the e-book shelves, the serial novel was an old, but exciting re-discovery. Serial novels were a Victorian era craze. Thanks to e-books, the serial has found a whole new venue.

After several years and four serials written—my fourth, entitled Make Me, will begin releasing weekly on April 4, 2016—I have some new observations about the serial novel. Like the publishing industry in general, the serial is still a work in progress. It was unchartered territory when Berkley’s InterMix and I first put out Because You Are Mine in 2012, each installment releasing on Tuesdays for eight consecutive weeks. People either adored the format, or they hated it.

Guest Post: Tara Sue Me on Keeping Characters Fresh

The Exhibitionist Tara Sue Me

When readers asked for more Nathaniel and Abby after The Training was published, I was hesitant. After all, I’d ended the book with their happily ever after. I even gave a brief glimpse into their lives a few years down the road with the Epilogue. What else was there to tell?

But the more I thought about it, the more I saw that there was so much more to tell. If you think about it, two people coming together, whether that be through marriage or not, is really just the beginning.  Their story of overcoming obstacles to find love is such a tiny portion of who they are as a couple. Real life is what happens after the vows and while, let’s face it, no one wants to read about washing dishes, or doing laundry, there are a lot things that are worth reading about.

I frown, peering over at the boat in question, now even blurrier than before. “I didn’t notice anyone there.”

“Not surprised. Come on. You need to go to bed.” His hand slides around my lower back and prods me toward shore.

A rare defiant streak surges. I didn’t fly thousands of miles away from my overbearing mama only to be scolded and ordered around by a stranger. I jab his chest with my finger. “You can’t tell me what to do. You’re not the boss of me. The boss is the boss of me. And he can boss me.” I’m not sure that made much sense.
