Strong Heroines in Romance | Donna Grant

One of the things I love about the romance genre is how many strong heroines there are. Gone are the days of damsels in distress. The women of modern romance writers might be from ancient eras, Victorian times, futuristic or fantasy words, or from our own time, but they have one thing in common – they can take care of themselves.

Here are a few of my favorite strong heroines in no particular order:

  • Nix from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. Actually, I love all of Kresley’s heroines, but Nix is one of my favorites. Strong and magical, no one messes with Nix – or anyone she loves.
  • Payne from JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. There was something about Payne that I loved from the moment she appeared on the page.
  • MacKayla Lane from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. There is something so brilliant about KMM’s writing, and it shows in every story. I loved watching Mac find the inner strength she never knew she had and have it develop into something so amazing.
  • Dani from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. I have to add both of these remarkable characters because I love both equally. I couldn’t choose one over the other, and if you’ve read the series, then you understand.
