Tyson lost his wife and child several years ago, and he knows it’s time to move on… So when his wife’s best friend barrels into his new life and he finds out she’s in trouble – as in serious stalker trouble – he steps up because he owes it to his late wife. Only he quickly finds out he wants to be at Kai’s side – any way he can.
Kai has wanted Tyson for so damn long, but from the first moment her best friend saw him first, the two were like a lock and key. When Kai sets her eyes on him for the first time in years while doing a demonstration for a new training program her company developed, she realizes her feelings haven’t changed.
But her life has changed, and she has a huge issue she doesn’t want anyone to know about. After all, she’s got a badass skill set… She can handle a stalker on her own… right?
Or maybe not. As the two delve deeper into the Kai’s troubles, they find out things are much more complicated than they seem – and much more-deadly.
Check out our exclusive excerpt below!
Kai watched Tyson walk away. He’d done incredibly well, considering he was the new boy on the block and she’d been picking on him all morning. She’d beaten the crap out of him, trying desperately to get him to hit back. But she’d forgotten about their code. Not only was it a case of not hitting or hurting a woman but also the fact they had his late wife between them. Tracy had been Kai’s best friend since they wore pigtails and took tap dancing lessons as five-year-olds.
Treachery’s Devotion has it all–intrigue, a red hot menage romance, murder, mayhem, an alpha protector knight, secret societies, a princess, conspiracies and a very sexy numismatist (don’t worry, that word is safe to google).
Mari and Lila are famous for their antics–check out their Trinity Masters Facebook group for daily fun times–and their co-writing style. Here’s a little peek at what it looks like when they write together.
Lila: I know what we should do for the blog post. We’ll start with a question. Here’s the question: “Describe this series in one sentence.”
Mari: Why do you always get to pick the question?
Lila: Because my hair is curlier.
Mari: Fake news.
Readers will find that almost every one of my books has some reference to wine, and as I did in Kiss Me Cowboy, I typically include a food pairing. Why? First and foremost, I am an executive sommelier—which is sort of like an executive chef, except instead of knowing way too much about food, I know way too much about wine.
I can say honestly, that getting my second tier sommelier certification was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. Instead of taking seven or eight weeks to complete the program, I thought it would be a good idea to enroll in the seven-day intensive class.
I took the opportunity to watch several of my favorite movies which are Seasoned Romances.
First up was Charade with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. The dialogue is witty and flirty. Audrey Hepburn’s coats are amazing and the supporting cast is filled with stars. Cary Grant is sexy and debonair and I love seeing Audrey Hepburn as the subtle, and not so, aggressor.
Next, Murphy’s Romance. I jumped from the urbane to the ranching life. Sally Field has that spark of youthfulness and James Garner is worldly. I love watching them dance around one another but I knew from the start that Garner’s character knew that slow and steady would win her heart.
In To Marry a Texas Outlaw, Luke Legend admits to robbing stagecoaches and a bank or two but now he’s accused of killing a federal judge and the price on his head is high. He’s on the run and looking for the man who framed him. After three years, he still knows very little except that the man has assumed the false identity of Ned Sweeney. He has no idea what he looks like.
Finally, armed with credible information that Ned Sweeney is at Dead Horse Creek, Luke is on his way to intercept him when he spies a woman tied up and gagged beneath a tree on the prairie. At first, he thinks she’s dead but discovers she’s alive then learns she has amnesia.
The only thing he can do is forget about getting his hands on Sweeney and help her. But it hurts to be this close only to let the man get away again.
Out of the many favorite books and movies that feature someone wrongly accused of a crime, here are my top five:
I’m in love with a woman I can’t have, and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to stop myself from falling.
The problem? Her brother’s my best friend.
I shouldn’t want her this much. Not when it goes against the bro code. Not when I’ve never been able to commit to a woman for longer than a night.
But one look into her eyes and I’m a mess for her. She’s my everything. And I have to walk away with nothing.
Imagine the scenario where you were allotted one dinner a piece, with any five celebrities you choose! Who would you pick and why?
Pretty crazy-tough-decision right? Yep. Especially for a movie-TV-music fan-girl like myself. So, what I decided to do when asked this question was cheat and do six, but only because two are from the same show and I want them to be together during my imaginary dinner.
So, let’s start get this started.
Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan from Outlander.
This is my two-for-one. I’d HAVE to hang with the both of them. Why, you ask? Because they are so. Freaking. Adorable together. Watching them in interviews, seeing them off camera… It makes me feel like they’d be a heck of a lot of fun to hang with!
Plus, I want to see if their real-life chemistry is anything like Jamie and Claire’s on the show.
I try to read wide, so at any given time I’m usually in the midst of one romance, a science fiction or fantasy novel, maybe a thriller or literary whatsit, and always of course a nonfiction something.
In my own little region of the cosmos, science fiction romance, I just started reading Sherry Thomas’s SFR novella, The Heart Is a Universe, which showcases her signature crazy-awesome wordsmithing and complicated characters, only this time in, you know, outer space. The story begins with a dance on an alien world, which I think might be a metaphor for my reader experience so far: all these disparate stylistic elements moving together beautifully. In fact, it was really hard to yank my eyeballs away from reading so I could write this blog post.
In the fantasy genre, the book I most recently enjoyed was the first of Scott Meyer’s Magic 2.0 books, Off to Be the Wizard, which offers a fresh take on the “we are all just players in a mega-realistic video game” concept. The story is fun and fast-moving, a series of situational puzzles that the protagonist solves in increasingly clever ways. I especially appreciated the character of Gwen, who, despite being the only named female other than the protagonist’s mother, is portrayed as both independent and clever, and her subplot wraps up in an unexpected but satisfying way.
All-state tight end Garret Mitchell will do anything to get a college football scholarship. Even taking ballet, which surprisingly isn’t so bad, because it means he gets to be up close and personal with the gorgeous Goth girl Izzy while learning moves to increase his flexibility. But Izzy needs him to perform with her for the Ballet Americana spot, and he draws the line at getting on stage. Especially wearing tights.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a bit of blackmail, a lot of sarcasm, and an ending guaranteed to melt your heart.
We had Ally Matthews, author of OFFSETTING PENALTIES, on the blog to answer our burning questions! Now, let’s jump in!
What are your five favorite movies with romance or romantic elements?
Sixteen Candles Spoiler Alert (highlight to reveal) The ending of Sixteen Candles. It was so wonderfully awkward and romantic at the same time for Jake to pick up Samantha after her sister’s wedding and give her a birthday cake after her family forgot her birthday.
For The Princesss Bride, my favorite scene is where Buttercup pushes Wesley down the hill, and when he says, “As you wish,” she realizes who he his. Of course, I can’t help but judge her a bit for not recognizing who he was immediately.
Derek McCarthy won’t rest until he proves that his cunning uncle was responsible for his father’s death. But due to their frosty relationship, the only way he could get into his uncle’s properties to search for the evidence that could expose his well-respected uncle’s crimes is to keep pretending that he and the daughter of his uncle’s business partner are in love. But his feelings for his friend Bernadette Luna keep getting stronger, so when an arrangement with his girlfriend-in-name-only enables him to date Bernadette, he grabs it with both hands. Unfortunately, he is soon faced with a heart-breaking choice: risk his uncle discovering his ruse and destroying the evidence, or risk losing Bernadette forever.
Should Bernadette follow her heart or listen to her head?
Bernadette Luna has been secretly in love with Derek McCarthy for ages. When Derek finally shows his attraction to her, she is ecstatic. He is truly the man of her dreams. But when she discovers that Derek might be keeping secrets from her, she has to make a decision: follow her heart or listen to her head. Problem is, her heart has misled her many times before, especially when it comes to Derek.
SHORT & SWEET EXCERPT:
“Thanks again, Bern. We might have to be seen together a few more times. How about I pick you up from work on Tuesday so we can talk about it?”
“Sure. Sounds like a plan.”
“Great. I’ll give you a call.” He shut her door and watched her drive away, licking his lips.
He and Bernadette had kissed. And he liked it a hell of a lot.
Damn it, Derek. Don’t go there. You know you can’t.
